Introduction

Battle Lens is published by Mircules. We take your privacy seriously — not as a marketing line, but as a core principle. This policy explains what data we collect (nothing) and what we do with it (nothing).

Data We Collect

Battle Lens does not ask you for personal data. The app ships with its entire historical dataset bundled on-device. It does not create an account, it does not ask for your email, and it does not record or transmit what you read. Anything you save inside the app — bookmarks, the last battle you viewed — stays on your device. The one exception to "everything is on-device" is Pro audio narration, which is fetched from our content delivery network on demand; see Network & Offline Use below for exactly what that involves.

Network & Offline Use

Battle Lens is designed to work offline. The bundled dataset — every battle, commander, and image — lives on your device, so the core features (the feed, map data, details, stats, filters, and commanders) need no connection, and the app sends no analytics or usage data to anyone. Three features do touch the network:

  • Map tiles. When you open the world map, background map tiles are fetched from Apple Maps on iOS and OpenStreetMap on Android. Those requests go to Apple / OpenStreetMap, who receive your device's IP address under their own privacy policies — not ours.
  • Pro audio narration. Audio narration is downloaded on demand from our content delivery network at battlelens.mirculescdn.download, then cached on your device for offline playback. To deliver the file, the CDN receives your device's IP address and the name of the requested audio file, which may appear in standard server access logs. We do not use this to build a profile of you, link it to your identity, or track you across the app — there is no account to tie it to.
  • In-app purchases. Handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play — see below.

Aside from those, Battle Lens makes no network requests to Mircules.

In-App Purchases

The one-time Battle Lens Pro purchase is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), depending on your platform. Payment information is handled by the store and is never seen by us. Battle Lens only receives confirmation from the store of whether Pro is unlocked on this device — nothing more.

Analytics & Tracking

We do not use any analytics services. No Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Facebook SDK, no Google Analytics. We do not track you. There is no analytics code in this app. None.

Crash Reporting

Battle Lens contains no crash-reporting SDKs, and Mircules collects no crash or diagnostic data from your device. If you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with Apple or Google at the operating-system level, the platform may make aggregated, anonymized crash reports available to us — this is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own policies and your device settings, never by code in the app.

Location

If you use the "Nearby Battles" feature, Battle Lens asks your device (iOS or Android) for your location. It is used in the moment, on your device, only to work out which battles are closest to you — it is not stored, logged, or saved anywhere, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can revoke this permission in your device settings at any time.

Content & Accuracy

The historical content in Battle Lens is AI-curated from publicly available sources including Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. Each battle record carries a confidence and completeness rating. Battle Lens is intended as a reference and starting point — double-check anything that matters for your purposes.

Children's Privacy

Battle Lens is a historical reference app and is suitable for readers of all ages. The app does not collect any data from users, regardless of age. Some battle descriptions deal with serious subject matter (casualties, conflict) that younger readers may find intense — parental discretion is advised.

Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to access, export, correct, or delete on your behalf. Bookmarks and local preferences stay on your device — deleting the app deletes them.

Changes

If we ever change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and note the change in the app's About screen. We don't anticipate major changes — our approach to privacy is fundamental to who we are.
